News · This Week in Prairie Athletics 1/25

Here are the latest news and notes from Prairie Athletics…

  • Congratulations to wrestler Sean Patrick on claiming a second consecutive Hoosier Heartland Conference individual title this weekend at Clinton Central. Other Gophers joining Sean in the top 6 include Drew Duarte (2nd), Ashton Wright (3rd), Kaden Mullendore (3rd), Avery Niemantsverdriet (5th), and Braden Mullendore (6th). The team finished 6th overall. Sectionals are this weekend at Frankfort and attendance is restricted to 2 people per wrestler.
  • The Girls Basketball team claimed at least a tie of a third consecutive HHC title with victories over Sheridan and Eastern last week. This week the Girls host a ranked Tipton team on Tuesday before closing out the regular season at home on Friday night against Clinton Central. The Tipton JV game will only be one half due to their low numbers currently. With a win over Clinton Central, the Lady Gophers will have gone three consecutive seasons without a loss in the HHC. The Sectional draw was also revealed yesterday. Prairie will play the Rossville/Central Catholic winner in the first semi-final game at Fountain Central on Friday night (Feb. 5).
  • The Boys Basketball team had another successful week with a road victory at Western Boone on Tuesday and a home victory over HHC foe Eastern on Friday. The Boys also played well in a 47-43 loss to an athletic 10-2 McCutcheon team at home on Saturday night. The Gophers look to improve their 8-4 record this week with road games at Frontier on Wednesday and at Clinton Central on Friday.
  • The Junior High girls host Western Boone tonight and travel to Faith Christian on Tuesday.
