Here are the latest news and notes from Prairie Athletics…

  • Seniors Landen Southern and Cody Marcinko combined to throw a perfect game vs. Faith Christian last Tuesday night in the season opener as the Gopher Baseball team picked up a 16-0 win over the Eagles. They continued their hot start with a 21-2 victory over Southmont on Friday before falling to Frankfort Saturday morning 11-5. This week the Gophers open HHC play against Sheridan (Tues at Sheridan and Wed at home) before traveling to Cardinal Ritter on Thursday and Tri-County on Friday. The JV team picked up a road win over North Montgomer 11-9 on Wednesday of last week. They travel to Delphi on Monday, host Harrison on Tuesday. and will participate in the Southmont Invite on Saturday morning.
  • The Softball team had a busy week, picking up wins over Southmont, North Montgomery, and Frontier this week. They also dropped a game vs. Tri-West to even their season record at 3-3. This week the Gophers host Faith Christian on Monday (Senior Night) and Harrison on Wednesday.
  • The Boys Golf team opened their 2021 season in less than ideal weather on Saturday at the Clinton Central Invitational. Wes Whitlock and Logan McDonald paced the Gophers while both carding top 10 finishes. This week Prairie travels to Rossville on Monday in their only meet of the week.
  • The Track and Field team hosted two meets this past week. On Tuesday, the Gophers hosted Western Boone and Frankfort where Tynlie Neal won the pole vault. Final Scores showed the Gophers finishing 3rd in both Boys and Girls. On Thursday, the Gophers hosted Clinton Central and Delphi. The Gophers faired much better in the 2nd meet as Tess Ecenbarger (1600M), Tynlie Neal (Pole Vault), Avery Brooks (100M Hurdles), Diego Moguel (3200M), Girls 4x100M Relay, Kylie Maish (Long Jump), Kaylee Wall (Shot Put), Cayden Davis (High Jump), and Mason Robertson (Shot Put) all claimed first place finishes on the day. CP finished 2nd in both Boys and Girls meets. This week the Gophers travel to Eastern on Tuesday and Frontier on Thursday.
