Clinton Prairie Lady Gophers ran off with the lead late in the game in an 18-11 victory over Lafayette Jeff on Tuesday. The game was tied at four with the Gophers batting in the top of the fifth when Kylie Burris singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Burris collected four hits in six at bats to help lead CP to victory. Burris doubled in the first, singled in the fifth, singled in the seventh, and doubled in the seventh.
Lafayette Jeff opened up scoring in the first inning when McTagertt homered on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs.
CP evened things up at four in the top of the fourth inning. Rebekah Stephens singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
The Lady Gophers notched eight runs in the seventh inning. Holly Loveless, Burris, Peyton Ray, Shalynn Barnett, Burris, and Cam Cornell each had RBIs in the frame.
Stephens led things off on the rubber for Clinton Prairie Gophers Varsity. She lasted five innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out two and walking zero.
M McCoy led things off on the hill for Lafayette Jeff. She allowed 15 hits and ten runs over four and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero. C Krueger threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Lafayette Jeff launched three home runs on the day. K Adams had a four bagger in the fifth inning. B Locker went yard in the fifth inning. McTagertt had a homer in the first inning.
The Lady Gophers racked up 23 hits. Burris, Hannah Wilson, Ray, Loveless, Cornell, and Barnett all managed multiple hits for CP. Ray, Wilson, and Burris all had four hits to lead Clinton Prairie. The Lady Gophers stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Ray led the way with three.
Lafayette Jeff collected 19 hits on the day. N Allen, Locker, Adams, M Jones, M Seef, K Pass, and E Cox each racked up multiple hits for Lafayette Jeff.
