Clinton Prairie Lady Gophers Clinches Lead In Seventh Inning For Victory Over Rossville.
Clinton Prairie Lady Gophers took the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over Rossville on Monday. The game was tied at eight with CP batting in the top of the seventh when Holly Loveless singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
A four-run lead in the third inning was just enough for CP to hold off Rossville for the victory. Rossville tallied six runs in the failed comeback. E Baumgardt, C Fadness, M Deboy, C Taylor, and Baumgardt powered the rally with RBIs.
The Lady Gophers got on the board in the first inning. Cam Cornell drew a walk, scoring one run.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Gophers tied things up at eight when Rebekah Stephens singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
After CP scored two runs in the top of the third, Rossville answered with two of their own. CP then scored when an error scored two runs for CP. Rossville then answered when Baumgardt doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run and Fadness doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Rossville scored four runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Rossville came thanks to a triple by Taylor, a single by Deboy, and a sacrifice fly by Baumgardt.
Loveless took the win for the Lady Gophers. She allowed nine hits and eight runs over seven innings, striking out nine.
Baumgardt took the loss for Rossville. She went seven innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits and striking out two.
The Lady Gophers racked up 11 hits on the day. Cornell, Loveless, Shalynn Barnett, and Molly Thomas each collected multiple hits for Prairie. Cornell went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Gophers in hits.
Rossville collected nine hits. Deboy, Taylor, and Baumgardt all managed multiple hits for Rossville.
