Clinton Prairie Lady Gophers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 2-1 loss to Frontier on Thursday. Frontier took the lead on a groundout in the second inning.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Frontier pitchers struck out five, while Clinton Prairie’s Holly Loveless sat down four.
Frontier fired up the offense in the second inning, when T Runyon grounded out, scoring one run.
P Clapper toed the rubber for Frontier. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out two and walking one.
Holly Loveless was on the rubber for Clinton Prairie. She lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out four and walking zero.
Clinton Prairie totaled seven hits. Molly Thomas and Loveless each collected multiple hits for Clinton Prairie Gophers Varsity. Loveless and Thomas each collected two hits to lead Clinton Prairie’s Katelyn Ramsey hit a triple in the bottom of the 7th as Prairie tried to rally but couldn’t get her over the plate to score. Prairie finished the season 16-9.
