The Clinton Prairie Lady Gophers defeated Lafayette Jefferson 10-5 on Tuesday thanks in part to Cam Cornell, who drove in seven runners. Cornell drove in runs on a single in the first, a grand slam in the fifth, and a single in the sixth.
CP earned the victory despite allowing Lafayette Jefferson to score three runs in the sixth inning. Lafayette Jefferson’s big inning was driven by a single by Chayton Krueger and a double by NiVonne Allen.
The Lady Gophers opened up scoring in the first inning. CP scored one run when Molly Thomas singled.The Lady Gophers notched four runs in the fifth inning. Clinton Prairie scored its runs on a grand slam by Cornell.
Rebekah Stephens was the winning pitcher for Clinton Prairie. She allowed seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six.
Maddie McCoy took the loss for Lafayette Jefferson. She went six innings, allowing ten runs on 13 hits, striking out three and walking one. The Lady Gophers collected 13 hits. Thomas, Cornell, Layne Snyder, and Shalynn Barnett all had multiple hits for Clinton Prairie Gophers Varsity. Thomas led all Clinton Prairie batters with four hits in four at bats. CP improves to 3-3. c
